UNBOUND by Kimberly Derting Official Blog Tour, Excerpt and Giveaway

SYNOPSIS

Do opposites really attract?

Emerson Monroe McLean is a true Texan through and through. But she's never wanted to be like the other girls she grew up with, the ones who view debutante balls and sororities as stepping-stones to landing the perfect husband.

Yet everyone underestimates Em. When they look at the leggy blonde, all they see is a serial-dater who leaves a string of broken hearts in her wake. What people don’t realize is that keeping guys at arms length is more than just about having a good time; it’s a deep-rooted defense mechanism.

Lucas Harper is California born and bred. The product of his wealthy upbringing and an overbearing mother, Lucas has always been told where to be and when to be there. But after his older brother’s death, Lucas is tired of being a puppet.

Taking a break to figure out what he wants out of life, he moves to West Beach to spend the summer surfing. It’s there that he meets Emerson McLean, the free-spirited beauty who lures him into her bed. Refusing to be tied down, she’s unlike any girl he’s every known.

Can they find common ground...or will their differences tear them apart?

Their chemistry is undeniable. There’s only one hitch: Lucas already has a fiancée. And when she lands on his doorstep, Emerson realizes that for the first time in her life, she has genuine feelings for a guy.

With her heart on the line, Emerson discovers that, win or lose, she isn’t the kind of girl to play by the rules.

EXCERPT

I matched his predatory gaze, and raised it with a smug one of my own. I was more than happy to talk about my impromptu striptease. “You noticed.”
He hooked his arm through mine and my heels sank into the plush carpet as we made our way toward the sounds of the party below. “You made it impossible not to.”
I quirked my eyebrow. “That was the point. If I had to suffer, then so did you.”
My confession earned me a growl as he dragged me to a stop. Now I was the one pressed up against the silk wallpaper my mother had hand-selected from Italy. He leaned close to me, his lips at my ear even though the music below was so loud no one down there could possibly hear us. “Jesus, Emerson, you think I wasn’t suffering enough already? Now on top of everything else I’ll be stiff for a week thanks to your performance.”
Tipping my head up, I let my cheek graze his freshly shaven jaw. I inhaled his scent, musk and soap, and even this far from home, the Pacific. When my hand reached up to rest on his biceps, his muscles flexed beneath his starched shirt. “I won’t apologize for making you uncomfortable.”

Released Today: Book of Watchers by Mary Ting, Review and Giveaway

Title: Book of Watchers
Series: Watchers #1
Author: Mary Ting
Genre: NA Fantasy
Release Date: March 26, 2018

Before the Bible, there was Book of Watchers
Enoch wants to live an ordinary life. He’s content to lie low, skip his college classes, and avoid committing to any one girl. But ordinary isn’t on the syllabus for Enoch because at night, he dreams of demons. Vivid dreams that leave him wanting escape more than ever. When they escape his dreams and attack him during daylight, his reality becomes a nightmare.
As he pieces together the meaning behind the encounters, supernatural creatures emerge. Demons. Vampires. Witches. Angels. And they all want something from him. In a supernatural world he never thought possible, Enoch uncovers a secret that either will destroy him or force him to become much more than he ever wanted.

My Review

The Book of Watchers will captivate your curiosity with originality and renown imagery, telling you of a time you never knew existed.

Enoch is just a regular guy.  Living life and keeping it chill until he gets in a serious accident.  Did he see something strange? Something from his dreams come to haunt him?  Coming away from the accident, his life will take a turn that he never imagined could be possible.  His friends are more than just his friends. He discovers a world that exists alongside the human world, one with angels, demons, witches and vampires.  However now, he's wanted and hunted for different reasons and he needs to figure out why to save himself and the human world....and more....😊

This story has a momentum from the first page to last that accelerates as the page number increases. No dull moment exists.  It's told in a three person point of view, which I found very interesting envisioning the story unfolding from different views.  The characters are conceived with astounding personalities that develop as the story progresses. The artistry creating this world is so profound, it unfolds beautifully before your eyes with rich details.  It's dark and gruesome at times, which shocked me completely, however it is necessary with the supernatural beings involved. Mary nailed this spot on. Despite the darkness, you see Mary's humor shine through at just the appropriate moment.

The Book of Watchers is imaginative, spellbinding and fulfilling.  This story has so much to offer and I look forward to the next installment to see where this story leads.

PACIFICA by Kristen Simmons Blog Tour, review and giveaway

Synopsis

Marin is cosario royalty, a pirate like her father and his father before him. Sailing the ocean to chase adventure is in her blood. But these days no one cares that the island town her people call home is named after her grandfather. They have a new leader, one who promises an end to their hunger – and one who thinks that girls are meant for the kitchen or the brothel. Marin knows she's meant for more than that, and with the sudden influx of weapons on the island, and rumors of a pending deal with the enemy oil nation in her wake, she knows a big score to gain the council's favor is the only way to save her people, and herself.

Ross lives a life of privilege. As the president's son he wants for nothing, but he longs for a life of adventure. On a dare, he convinces his best friend Adam to sneak out to the Docks, the site of local race riots between the poor Shorlings and the upper class. But when Adam is arrested along with the other Shorlings, and not even the president is willing to find him, Ross finds himself taking matters into his own hands. He journeys back into the Docks, ready to make deals with anyone, even a beautiful pirate, if it means Adam's safe return.

When Marin and Ross meet in dangerous Shoreling territory he sees a way to get his friend back and she sees her ticket home. The ransom a president’s son would command could feed her people for years and restore her family’s legacy. But somewhere in the middle of the ocean, Marin must decide if her heart can handle handing over the only person who has ever seen her as more than a pirate.

Praise for PACIFICA

“Simmons (Article 5, 2012; Metaltown, 2016) excels at dystopian fiction, and her admirable latest takes to the sea. …A breathtaking story full of high-seas adventure, power struggles, romance, betrayal, and more... Simmons’ great-grandmother was taken to a Japanese internment camp during WWII, and her experiences influence those of Marin and the pirates. ...Non-stop action and surprises will keep readers enthralled through both rough waters and smooth sailing alike.” ―Booklist, starred

"A harrowing world where overpopulation is rampant and pollution stifling. The characters creep into your heart with raw, familiar issues of love, friendship, and family ties, careening you on a plot fraught with just as many twists as there are pieces of trash in the ocean. Pacifica will have you breathlessly fearing our own future." ―New York Times bestselling author Sara Raasch

Praise for KRISTEN SIMMONS

"Like The Handmaid's Tale, Simmons's book serves as essential commentary on women's rights." ―Cosmopolitan.com on The Glass Arrow

“I’m clutching my mangled heart and smiling madly, so it’s that kind of book. Such gorgeous heartbreak! Smart, absorbing, and deeply human.” ―New York Times bestselling author Laini Taylor on Metaltown

“A compelling, inspiring read. The characters had me rooting for rebels, fights worth fighting, and girls with gumption. By the time it was over, I had my fist in the air.” ―New York Timesbestselling author Kendare Blake on Metaltown

My Review

Dystopian ✔
Post-apocalyptic ✔
Pirates ✔
Kristen Simmons ✔

All these checks make a concoction to intoxicate your mind.

Marin has been trying to stay alive on the mainland, with very few friends but many dark secrets.  She belongs at sea, it's pull deep in her blood. However, she can't go home until she can prove her worth.

The Shorelings and the upper class have been feuding, tensions are high as it gets closer to the elite 500 shorelings who are chosen to go to Pacifica.

Ross, the president's son talks Adam, the Vice President's son to go down to the shoreling to see the riots, but not get involved. However, they get too "close" and disruption and mayhem causes Ross and Adam to separate.  Ross goes to seek his father's help, however when he realizes that nothing is being done,, he takes matters into his own hands. THAT is when Ross and Marin meet.  They both need something from the other....willing to take a chance and dive into an adventure full throttle.  Secrets are exposed, even though their main agenda was to find Adam, they discover there is something tremendous they need to expose, or hundreds of lives will be in danger.

WOW...from start to finish, Pacifica is a rapid read saturated with adventure.  This world was created with so much depth and devotion, it easily unfolds before your eyes. With beautiful words and attention to details, I smelled the salt of the sea and the breeze of the storms.  All the characters come to life with individual personalities.  You learn about their wants...needs..and secrets. Which makes it impossible not to be drawn into this world.  They feel real...become real as you engross yourself into their world.

This is a read you CAN NOT miss.....get it and prepare yourself!

I read books cover to cover...everything the author has to share.  And this story was created from real life accounts that Kristen's grandmother went through being at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked in WW2 and the aftermath.
