I would like to thank I'm a Reader, Not a Writer and Oasis for YA for hosting this wonderful blog hop! What a great way to find out more great book reads and blogs to visit!

For my giveaway, I'm going to offer two copies of one of my favorites for 2011.
Crossroads by Mary Ting. This will be an actual book, with a signed bookplate from Mary attached! This giveaway is open International!

Title: Crossroads by Mary Ting

Claudia Emerson has a good friend who shares the same first name and last name. That friend unfortunately dies in a tragic accident during homecoming dance. Claudia is distraught at the loss of her friend, but is even more disturbed by her dreams, which seem to take her to another place called Crossroads. Unknown to her, Crossroads is like a second heaven, a place between heaven and earth. It is where the souls of humans in comas or near death experiences may wander. Where, Claudia meets Michael, a nephilim, a half angel, half human, whom she often meets in her dreams. It turns out that this isn’t her first visit to Crossroads, which is an enigma for no human can ever travel there until Claudia.

Now the fallen and demons are after her, suspecting she must be special and it is up to Michael and the other nephilims to protect her. Her dream becomes a nightmare as more secrets are revealed, about who she really is, and the true identities of the people she loves most. Can Michael fight his growing feelings for Claudia and protect her as a guardian angel should?

Kiss Me Crazy by Ednah Walters Book Tour

Photobucket

Title: Kiss Me Crazy
Author: Ednah Walters
Publish Date: Published September 30th 2011 by Firetrail Publishing
Synopsis:
Art conservator, Kara Michaels has decided it’s time to chase her dream—start her own business restoring and framing works of art. She has the skills, the nose for business, and the pent-up frustration from being invisible to the man she wants but can’t have—her boss.

He’s a meticulous planner whose rule book is about to be tossed out the window...

Baron Fitzgerald, a successful art dealer and Kara’s boss, believes in having a strategy and following it without deviation. So when Kara tenders her resignation, he sets out to convince her to stay. Baron soon realizes that falling in love cannot be planned, but the insight comes a little too late for him and Kara.
For my review of Mine Until Dawn, I said I wished I was born a Fitzgerald girl…I have changed my mind….I wish I could have a Fitzgerald man!!

Ever since Kara has worked for Baron Fitzgerald, she has had feelings for him. They have worked well together, but Baron never seemed to be interested in Kara until she turned in her resignation. Baron did not want to let her go, offering a pay raise, office space, whatever Kara wanted to stay. However, Kara felt it was time to move on with her dreams, and maybe get past her feelings for Baron.
Baron proves that he is more than interested in Kara. Going out of his way to help her and her sister, Kara starts to realize that it may be possible that Baron does have feelings for her.

I love the Fitzgerald’s family motto of “Family comes first.” A strong knit family monitoring each other, and always helping each other. Baron is a gorgeous, driven man, who when he falls hard for Kara, will not stop to try to please her. I loved how the relationship between Baron and Kara unfolded. Their romance moved slowly, which just made the story incredible maddening to see them end together. The moments of butterflies and goose bumps were fantastic. Kara being a strong business woman in her field, held few insecurities about herself. I loved seeing her confidence blossom, and grasp the relationship head on.

The Fitzgerld series is insanely wicked. You must give them a try!

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead Review

Title: Bloodlines
Author: Richelle Mead
Publish Date: Published August 23rd 2011 by Razorbill

Synopsis:
The first book in Richelle Mead's brand-new teen fiction series - set in the same world as Vampire Academy.

When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive - this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood.
So, Have you read the Vampire Academy Series yet? If you have, AWESOME! If you haven’t you MUST, so then you can read Richelle Mead’s new series Bloodlines.

I absolutely loved this book, as well as the Vampire Academy series. When you fall in love with characters in a series, you just don’t want it to ever end. That’s what is absolutely great about Bloodlines, it’s a different story, but with the same characters. BONUS!!

You just can’t go wrong with Bloodlines….Vampires, Dhampers, Humans, and Alchemists…OH MY!! An Insanely incredible story about all the races mingling together, working together to protect Jill, which protects Lisa’s throne.

Synopsis:
By age twenty-eight, art historian Jade Fitzgerald has had a marriage from hell and an equally nasty divorce, worked hard to control her weight and her arrhythmia. He's cynical and doesn’t take crap from anyone....

Former investigative reporter Vince Knight is on a quest to recover a priceless, ancient Mayan artifact, which he believes Jade’s mother stole. He’s skilled at gathering information while remaining emotionally detached, until he meets Jade. The voluptuous woman stirs in him a hunger he hasn’t felt in a long time and a protectiveness he can’t explain.

Until, an insane man decides to add Jade to his collection of beautiful and rare things....

Neither Vince nor Jade expects passion to flare so fast or danger to dodge their footsteps. To defeat a ruthless art collector with a twisted agenda, Jade and Vince must learn to trust each other and embrace their growing feelings

All I know is that I am wishing I were born a Fitzgerald girl!!

This story Rocked from the first page to the last. You learn about Jade and the hardships she went through with her marriage, how her husband belittled her and made her feel insignificant. Publish Date: Published February 3rd 2011 by Pill Hill Press
Synopsis:
Most teens turn sixteen and get the license to drive, but Lil Falcon gets the license to kill demons. Orphaned as a child and raised by an eccentric grandfather, Lil is concerned with surviving high school and is unaware that she's a Guardian-a being with super powers charged with killing demons and protecting humanity. When she meets Bran, a mysterious boy with amazing abilities, his psi energy unlocks her latent powers. But Bran has a secret that can ruin their growing relationship, and the truth she discovers may destroy everything she believes in unless she finds the right balance between love and sacrifice

Once I started reading this book, I just could not put it down. It has got it all…discovering your true self, humor, action, drama, friendships, and young love.

Lil has been home schooled most of her life…taught how to protect herself. She and her grandfather have always been on the move, Lil thinking it was just her gypsy heritage. Lil, Bran, and the other guardians go on an adventure that will blow your mind. Not only does Lil learn more about her parents, she also discovers how powerful she can be.

Ok, I know, it is a little vague, but trust me, You will love this book. It has so much action, self-discovery and alliance that you will immediately be drawn into its clutches. I love the humor some of the guardians in training possess, and loved to watch their friendships unfold. So, get this book NOW and read it, and do not forget the second book Betrayed!

Raven Review and December Moon BLog Tour

Suzy Turner

I was SO excited when Suzy Turner contacted me to do a Blog Tour of December Moon. I had just started my blog, and I was honored that she wanted to give me a chance to be one of the few to tour. So, I'm going to first start with my review of Raven, just to get you hooked, and then a blurb from December Moon.

Title: Raven
Author: Suzy Turner
Publish Date: Published May 9th 2011 by Suzy Turner, via Smashwords
Synopsis:

Her whole life had been based on a lie. Lilly had grown up in a loveless home with a father who she had barely ever seen and a mother who was... well, not very motherly.
After they mysteriously disappear without a trace, Lilly is sent to Canada where she finds a whole new way of life. A life filled with love and people who care for her. But that's not all she discovers, Lilly also finds out that she isn't who, or what, she thinks she is.
Lilly has a very special ability and it's just a matter of time before her true self starts to shine. And when it does, her life will never be the same again

Raven will grab your soul.

Lilly was growing up in a loveless family. She never had a friend until she met a new girl at school, December Moon. Lilly had to keep that friendship hidden.

One day, her parents disappeared, and she had to move to Canada to live with a grandfather she had never met. She never knew that she had an extended family, all dying to meet her and shower her with love.

However, Lilly started to have dreams, dreams that did not make sense to her. She knew her grandfather was keeping secrets, and one day he had to reveal the truth. On top of learning that the world could be a loving place, she also learned that all those Fairy Tales her father would sneak to her, may not just be fairy tales.

Raven is an incredible story about a girl who is so sheltered, but definitely intelligent. Lilly is a very strong character, who takes everything thrown at her gracefully. Raven is suspenseful. Each chapter built on top of the other to lead you to an incredible ending. I had such a difficult time putting it down because I just NEEDED to know what happened next.

My Over All Rating:
5 Star

And now, I introduce to you, the second book in the saga, December Moon.....

Title: December Moon
Author: Suzy Turner
Publish Date: Published August 27th 2011 by Suzanne Turner Publishing
Synopsis:

EXCERPT OF DECEMBER MOON
December Moon had no idea that she was a witch.
She had never given it a single thought. Why would she?
Well, she hadn't given it a single thought until the day before her fifteenth birthday when she had silently wished that the gymnasium would flood. She was sick of humiliating herself with her rather serious lack of elegance on the floor... pointed out, rather loudly, by her fellow gymnasts. The other girls looked impressive, as they fluttered about the room like brightly coloured butterflies, full of elegance and composure. December, on the other hand, thought herself more akin to Alice in Wonderland's caterpillar.
Imagine December's surprise when she began to hear the gentle whooshing sound that usually accompanies an overflowing bathtub. A noise that slowly became louder and louder, until water literally began pouring into the gymnasium from all directions. And it wasn't even raining.
“What the...?” Miss Finnegan screeched.
“Everybody form an orderly line and exit the gymnasium as soon as you can!” she yelled in her posh English accent to her students, after turning puce from blowing so hard on the red whistle that always hung around her taut, blotchy neck.
December knew something wasn't quite right with the whole scenario, considering the gymnasium had never posed a flood threat before and the fact that there was no plumbing anywhere near the building. The changing rooms were situated at the far end of the school... a design she had never quite understood.
As all the girls and boys panicked and flocked to the exit in one mad rush, December slowly took her time. It was only water, after all, and a little bit of water never hurt anyone. Well, it had never hurt me, she thought. Exactly at that moment, the water that had begun seeping into her black plimsolls and wetting her feet, receded, leaving her feet and ankles entirely, and strangely, dry.
Eyes wide in amazement, December surveyed the scene around her as one last student ran across the large mat in the centre of the room, it squelching beneath her feet. She was the last to leave. Even Miss Finnegan hadn't waited to make sure all her students had escaped unharmed and dry.
The water continued to pour in from each corner of the room, large droplets plopping around her from the ceiling and walls. Bits of green painted plaster broke away from the wall and fell down, bobbing up and down in the ankle high water below. December looked down at the floor and noticed that water was everywhere except within a small circular area surrounding her feet. As she moved, the dry circular area moved with her, like a bouncing bubble.
Before she could work out what was happening, gymnasium equipment began to fall and crash to the floor with the force of the running water.
How can this be? She thought. Then she remembered her silent wish, surely not? No, there had to be a rational explanation to all of this. I couldn't possibly be responsible. But the dry bubble around her told her a very different story.
As much as December wanted to hang around and enjoy watching the gym fill up with water, abruptly putting an end to her least favourite subject, she knew Miss Finnegan would eventually notice she was missing. So she skipped from the flooded room and out into the unusually bright sunlight of the October English afternoon.

Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz Review

Title: Spellbound
Author: Cara Lynn Shultz
Publish Date: Published June 28th 2011 by Harlequin Teen
Synopsis:
Life hasn't been easy on sixteen-year-old Emma Connor, so a new start in New York may be just the change she needs. But the posh Upper East Side prep school she has to attend? Not so much. Friendly faces are few and far between, except for one that she's irresistibly drawn to—Brendan Salinger, the guy with the rock-star good looks and the richest kid in school, who might just be her very own white knight.
But even when Brendan inexplicably turns cold, Emma can't stop staring. Ever since she laid eyes on him, strange things have been happening. Streetlamps go out wherever she walks, and Emma's been having the oddest dreams: visions of herself in past lives—visions that warn her to stay away from Brendan. Or else.

Spellbound is the perfect name for this book. It will bound you, grab you, and hold you until you finish the book.

Emma has had a lot of hardships in her life. She moves in with her Aunt, who has finally talked her into living with her. She attends an elite school, with a lot of snobby rich girls, who seem to have it in for Emma from the first day of school. Ashley, her cousin, tries to show her the ropes at the prestigious school.

Anthony tries to pursue Emma, but she has her eye on another guy, Brendan. Emma thinks that she has a connection with Brendan, but everytime they start to get a little close, he backs off, turns cold to her.

Emma becomes friends with Angelique, who proclaims to be a witch. Emma tells Angelique the dreams that she has, and the weird things that has been happening to her. Angelique believes that someone is trying to send her a message. After some research, they discover what is happening with Emma.

Ah yeah, so hard to write a review and not give out any spoilers. BUT, this is an incredible storyline. I loved the characters, and found myself laughing out loud at some of the dialect. The journey that Emma travels is intense….and I found myself squeezing the book, and not wanting to put it down until I was finished. Love at first sight? Love by Spellbound? Either way, Love is love…and you must read this book to find out!

The Pull of Gravity Review

Title: The Pull of Gravity
Author: Gae Polisner
Publish Date: Published May 10th 2011 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR)

Synopsis:
While Nick Gardner’s family is falling apart, his best friend, Scooter, is dying from a freak disease. The Scoot’s final wish is that Nick and their quirky classmate, Jaycee Amato, deliver a prized first-edition copy of Of Mice and Men to the Scoot’s father. There’s just one problem: the Scoot’s father walked out years ago and hasn’t been heard from since. So, guided by Steinbeck’s life lessons, and with only the vaguest of plans, Nick and Jaycee set off to find him.
Characters you’ll want to become friends with and a narrative voice that sparkles with wit make this a truly original coming-of-age story.

I was so intrigued to read this story. Just from the synopsis above, I just had to read it to see if Nick and Jaycee find The Scoot’s dad.

The story starts off with Nick telling about is fevers, hallucinations, and family life. His family moved from Manhattan, and it seems since then, things have been falling apart. His best friend, The Scoot, has a serious disease called Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome. A very rare disease that makes him age faster than reality. However, as they grow older and reach high school, they become a little distant from each other.

Nick meets Jaycee, who also happens to be friends with The Scoot. Nick finds out from her that The Scoot wanted to find his dad, who walked out on him because he could not handle his illness. Therefore, Nick and Jaycee set off on an adventure, with the only clue they have, to find Scoot’s dad.

Nick and Jaycee are kind of an oddball pair…having nothing in common except for The Scoot and coming from confused families. But as the story progresses, and they start to get to know each other, you can see that they really do get along.

Geesh, it is so hard to do reviews on a story that you loved. There were moments where I was laughing, and others where I cried. Scoot’s illness really makes an impression on you. How someone so young can handle the obstacles he has to deal with is incredible. I find that he is definitely wise beyond his years. Watching Nick and Jaycee’s friendship blossom was a lot of fun…it just shows that you cannot judge a book by its cover. At the end of the story, I gave a big sigh, and thought to myself, THAT was a good book!

Forever Review

Title: Forever
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Publish Date: Published July 12th 2011 by Scholastic, Inc.
Synopsis:
The thrilling conclusion to #1 bestselling Shiver trilogy from Maggie Stievater
In Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. In Linger, they fought to be together. Now, in Forever, the stakes are even higher than before. Wolves are being hunted. Lives are being threatened. And love is harder and harder to hold on to as death comes closing in.

I was so excited to win an ARC of Forever and having it autographed to me was an extreme honor!! I was so excited to be able to read this book!!

Grace and Sam’s story starts with them apart, again. Grace as a wolf, Sam in his human form. Their relationship has had so many ups and downs. Sam continues on his everyday life, without Grace, and tries to handle all the stares and ridicule he receives. Everyone suspects him.

Cole has focused himself to finding a cure and keeps trying to call Isabel but she never returns his calls. He puts himself into his work, and sets up traps trying to catch the wolves, unsuccessfully.

Grace changes back and worth to wolf form and worries that the relationship with Sam might be in jeopardy. Sam realizes he needs to face his demons to continue on.

Isabel finds out from her father that the restriction on the wolves has been lifted and they are granted the aerial shoot to get rid of the pack. She goes to tell Sam and Cole, and they try to figure out what to do to save the wolves.

Grace and Cole both want to contact people that were important in their lives to let them know that there are well. They both battle whether it is the right thing to do.

This story had the book glued to my hands. It is so hard to do a review on a story that you loved so much…so anxious to find out what the ending will be, without giving away any spoilers. Maggie did not disappoint me at all at the end of the trilogy. My heart was pounding at the end.
